Discovering Origami

Capucine Noël

Origami, the age-old art of paper folding, has captured the imagination of children for generations.

With just a sheet of paper and a little patience, children can create an endless variety of shapes and figures by following simple folding instructions. This process, both fun and educational, offers children the opportunity to explore their creativity while developing their concentration, coordination and precision.

Learnings:

Origami is more than just paper folding; it is also a fun and engaging way to learn.

By following the folding steps, children learn reading skills, understanding instructions and problem solving skills, while stimulating their imagination.

Additionally, practicing origami encourages patience and perseverance, as each fold requires attention and precision to achieve the desired result.

Moments in collaboration:

In addition to being fun and educational, origami is also a great way to strengthen family and social ties. Asking for and accepting help from an adult, receiving instructions, doing things together, ... it's a great opportunity to spend a moment of complicity and transmission.

Children can share their creations with friends and family, exchange folding techniques and collaborate on group origami projects. It is an activity that encourages sharing, cooperation and the pleasure of creating together.

Online tutorials, books and Origami kits

Today, it's easy to find a multitude of origami tutorials and models online, suitable for all skill levels, for free. We like this page from Origami Club , where we find tutorials for very simple origami for children.

You can also buy origami kits which allow a quick start like those we offer at La Miocherie. These kits generally have folding marks indicated on the colored / patterned papers to simplify folding. We particularly love the 3D Pikachu or Harry Potter origami .

In short, origami offers children an enriching experience that is fun, educational and creative . It is a timeless activity that encourages individual expression, concentration and the pleasure of creating with one's own hands.

If you know of any sites, books, or YouTube pages with great origami tutorials, please let me know in the comments and I will add them to this article.
