The rules of the tarot game

As a reminder, here are the rules of the game, there are of course as many variations as there are players :-) and we can have extremely simple or more complex rules to spice up the strategic side of the tarot. In short, forget the battle and say hello to the tarot game!

1. Deck Composition: The Tarot deck is played with 78 cards. This deck includes four suits, called "suits": Wands, Cups, Swords, and Coins. Each suit has cards numbered 1 to 10, as well as special cards such as the Jack, Knight, Queen, and King.

2. Game Objective: The goal of tarot varies depending on the variant, but generally it involves winning tricks (groups of played cards) and reaching a certain number of points. Some tarot games focus on completing contracts, while others focus on taking tricks to earn points.

3. Announcements and Contracts: Before each round begins, players can make specific announcements about which cards they think they can win. These announcements, often called "contracts," add a strategic dimension to the game.

4. Dealing Cards: Cards are dealt by a dealer. Depending on the rules, each player may receive a specific number of cards to make up their hand.

5. Trick Game: The game is played in rounds of tricks. Each player plays a card in turn, and the player with the highest card wins the trick. Special cards, such as trump cards, can influence the course of the game.

6. Trumps: A special feature of the tarot game is the use of trumps. Trumps are cards that have special power and can prevail over cards of other suits.

7. Points and Score: At the end of each round, points are awarded based on contracts announced and tricks won. Players attempt to maximize their points to achieve the game's objective.

There are many regional variations of the tarot game, and the precise rules may vary. Tarot is often played with three, four, or five players, and communication between partners may be permitted in some versions.
